Although the program is aimed at helping low income individuals, we do not expect volunteer clinicians to confirm the socio-economic status of participants. It would be difficult to do so accurately, and we would expect that individuals who have the means to do so would rather purchase a new hearing aid than receive a refurbished one.
The Hear4U Foundation has some hearing aids available for donation. Please contact info@hear4u.ca if you are in need of devices. Alternatively, you could phone or email other volunteer clinicians in your area to see if they have spare devices.
Yes, although we hope that clinicians will be able to replace the old domes and receivers with new components provided for free by manufacturers.
If this is not possible, or if new molds are needed, the client can be charged for the factory cost of the the new components. Clients should be informed up front of the possibility of such charges.
The information is provided in the FAQ sheet for Hear4U recipients, which can be printed and provided to them at the time of their first visit.
No charges will be levied for providing the initial assessment, hearing aid fitting, and 3 follow up appointments in the first year. If additional appointments are required in the first year a nominal fee of $50 per visit may be charged at the clinician’s discretion.
